Gas scrubbing requirements tend to fall into two categories within the industry general ventilation and dedicated job specific applications. The general ventilation systems tend to be lower concentrations but higher volumes and so the scrubbing plants are quite large. Job specific applications tend to be low volumes but high concentrations or are multi-purpose as used typically on Pilot Development projects and so a variety of process parameters are set and the equipment design optimised to provide the most flexible solution. Polypropylene reinforced with GRP to BS 4994-1987 has been the traditional industry standard but increasingly ECTFE liners are replacing Polypropylene where high temperature, aggressive chemicals or solvent resistance is demanded or simply the process conditions are undefined and so the best available material is used. Parsons have developed considerable expertise in all materials including pure Furane GRP moulded construction.
Some gas phases cannot be scrubbed and so alternative technologies have to be employed. Parsons have developed considerable expertise in shallow tray and deep bed carbon Adsorbers that can be used effectively on certain gas phases.
High temperature destruction can be a viable option where the concentrations are high and air volumes are low, Parsons have designed and supplied such packages to a number of clients on gas phases such a Methyl Methacrylate.
In certain applications carbon regeneration is conducted using steam stripping or pressure swing technologies and then recovery of the solvent is via standard distillation, Parsons have a fully operation Pilot Plant Distillation Rig at their works and are able to carry out trials to determine specific design data.
Generally system pressures fall in the range of 1000 Pa to 6000 Pa and so corrosion resistant fans form an integral element of the system, Parsons manufacture a full range of corrosion resistant fans including a range of high pressure fans able to operate up to 20 000 Pa.
Scrubbing packages can be skid mounted, which enables the scrubber to be installed within a coated mild steel framework giving access to all parts of the scrubber for the purpose of maintenance. The recirculation pumps, pipe work, ductwork, instrumentation and control panels are all mounted within the skid, fully installed and tested in our works so that all commissioning can be done off site. This facility reduces cost and installation times on site and is a design option that has been used many times by clients both in the UK and Overseas.
Parsons manufacture a full range of manual and actuated dampers for flow control and isolation purposes to complete their ductwork programme. The ductwork programme also includes corrosion resistant attenuators and stacks.
Parsons who manufactures a wide range of plastic storage vessels and reactors also caters for the storage and processing of chemicals. Vessels are manufactured from:
PVC, Polypropylene, Acrylic, PVDF, ECTFE, FEP, PFA reinforced externally where required with GRP in accordance with BS 4994-1987 other standards such as ASME X and DVS 2205 are also available on request.
Vessels are available in rectangular/square styles in complete or sectional design, where space or processes prefer circular vessels up to 4.5 metres diameter 18 metres tall can be produced. Circular vessels tend to be vertical axis but if preferred Parsons can supply Horizontal axis vessels complete with support cradles. Full delivery, installation and commissioning services are available using our own experienced site technicians supervised by our Qualified Engineering Staff.
